Hello, friends and family! Just checking in with you people. I have officially been in Kansas for 23 days and am attempting to learn to be savvy about my new city of residence. Trying to get around without using the GPS in my phone. Some days I have to cheat a little. : )  I have been signing up for local deals- Groupon, Living Social, Amazon Local, etc. Also downloaded an App called FrontFlip with restaurant freebies and such.

Can’t help but be sassy- I think all Southern girls have at least a little sass. Just gotta let the Holy Spirit control it!  You know what I am talking about- you Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama girls.

Because I like to share good information, I wanted to include a few things that I think are savvy and sassy.  Some fun discoveries and favorite things. Of course, pictures make it better!

Here is the house we are renting for the next 10 months or so in Lenexa, Kansas. The front is a slate blue with a red door- Hotty Toddy.

house edit

You know I have always wanted a red door- ever since Katie Brown had a show and stood in front of her red door. It would have never worked with our Mississippi house with the red brick or with the Tudor style home in Alabama. Really digging this door.

Photos of our street- Haskins Street. So exciting, I know.

Every morning and night, I take Max for a walk. Andy goes with us in the evenings. In the morning, we call it a Nature Walk because we see at least 20 squirrels, 8 rabbits, and 5 chipmunks. We also see lots of birds hunting worms on the ground. Poor Max- he totally thinks he can catch the rabbits and squirrels and chipmunks, even with me on the other end of the leash! Pulling my arm out of socket, he is! Those little rodents are brave. They stare us down from 4 feet away and then scurry away. Max goes crazy!  I guess Kansas was once a prairie, and they paved paradise and put up a parking lot. Animals everywhere.

We went outside a few nights ago, and at the end of our driveway, there was a large animal. Because it was dark, I thought it was a huge dog with no owner. Max’s ears perked up, and he barked.  It was a doe just walking along. She did not tarry to visit once Max lunged toward her.

We have a neighborhood pool. I have never had one of those. Haven’t been to it yet, but hopefully, we will get over there soon.

There are pocket doors in this house which separate the living room from the kitchen on one side and the entry way hallway on the other side. So cool.

When we moved in, the sink in the garage looked like this…

After muttering out some frustrations, it took  4 hours of elbow grease and some mineral spirits to achieve this result:

It is functional and useable. Just trying to leave this place better than we found it. Sounds like a motto we Christ-followers should have…hmmm.

In case you ever decide to visit Kansas-  BEWARE: You can’t always get sweet tea in restaurants around these parts. Just preparing you.

Andy and I went to our first Food Truck Rally.

The Vertical Church group attended this event in Merriam at the Farmer’s Market Pavillion a couple of Sunday nights ago to mingle and support a local event.  The food was delicious. The first thing Andy and I shared was a dish called Poutine Fries– French fries covered in melted cheese, gravy, and roast beef. Jingle Bells!

Then we tried a Wood Fire Oven Pizza that was covered in spinach and parmesan and mushrooms and truffle oil. Ding-a-ling!

Then, my sweet boyfriend, L, and I walked over to get cupcake. We tried White Wedding. It looked better than it tasted.  I am missing Dreamcakes Bakery….mmmm.

That’s a SASSY cupcake.

L got tired of waiting in line, so he rested a little. Bless!

Finally, we tried a Mango Smoothie– delish!

Because Max the Mighty kept slipping and sliding all the way down the hall, we bought a rug.  He needed something to give him some traction. Here it is…

I think it is SASSY, but don’t tell Andy I used that word.

After Sweet Sue (Mom) sent me this free printable from this blog:

I found a frame that Angie Graves had given me years ago, and I put the two together. Here is the finished result:

Pretty SAVVY!   I like it. Now you know how to make one, too.

Andy and I are trying some infused water this summer. So far, oranges, lemons, and limes are in the pitcher. Detoxing and all that jazz.

I am taking one of my favorite recipes to a potluck dinner at our Vertical Community on Thursday night. Here it is if you would like to try it.

A classic from Southern Living. I think Liz and Lacy like this one. Roasted New Potato Salad.

So, so SAVVY.

In case you forgot….

Here are the books I am currently reading. Since I was late to the party, I am catching up on the Tangible Kingdom primer that the Vertical Church group went through already. Really good stuff. I highly recommend!

Our Vertical Community is now reading The Gospel Primer together as we prepare for the church launch. Getting back to the nitty-gritty of why in the world we are here and what we are called to do as followers of Christ.  Refreshing and convicting.  You might like it.

Both are very SAVVY.

My dog has incontinence problems. Sigh. We are trying to find some meds or treatment or anything holistic that works. The Copaiba essential oil from Young Living hasn’t helped. Proin stopped working.. Two new meds from the vet are not working. We are now giving our dog ACV- Apple Cider Vinegar in hopes of a remedy. Any ideas out there?

I don’t want to go here…..

That is not Max. That is some other poor, poor, pitiful dog.

We are thankful for so many things, but I am kinda tired of following Max around and cleaning as he dribbles – I am not talking about a basketball.

We won’t trade him in, though. Here he is resting his head on Andy’s foot:

SEND SAVVINESS! Send ideas and remedies, please.

Ohhh….these crackers are yummy.

Here is a nail color I am loving this summer:

For some SASSY toes.

Finally, a shot of the darling bracelets Abbie and Rebekah gave me to wear this summer. Thankyouverymuch.

Sassy, indeed!

Hope you found some news you could use! All is well here in the heartland of America. We really are in the center of the country, but we are nowhere near a beach.

I love you and I miss you and I hope you share your SASS and SAVVINESS with me! I really love to learn about new and good things.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17

Keeping it SASSY,
